Aguinaldo

Wed, Apr 13, 2016

Aguinaldo = year-end bonus required by Mexican law, equivalent to two weeks' salary.

Mexican workers employed in the so-called formal economy receive various job benefits, known as prestaciones.

One of the most significant of those benefits is the aguinaldo, a year-end bonus equivalent to two weeks of pay, una quincena. It is usually paid in early- or mid-December, although some employers give the option of receiving it in November.

Workers employed for only part of the year receive a pro-rated payment of their aguinaldo.
